Several causes: This type of pain can have several causes. It can be local such as a strain or rhomboid bursitis. It can originate inside the chest cavity. If it is tender, it is likely a local issue. Have a doctor evaluate it if it has been present for a while. If recent try heat at the area and either advil or aleve (naproxen).

Ribs or Lung?: Pain when you take a deep breath seems to indicate that when your rib cage expands this is painful...This points towards a problem in the rib cage or pulmonary system although the possibilities can be many. If this is minor it can just be a strain of a rib cage muscle but if significant, see your doctor.

Eval 1st: This is most often related to neck/cervical spine related issues. A "pinched nerve" from the neck either from a disc bulge/herniation/bone spur is usually the culprit. The only way to know for sure would require an evaluation from an orthopedic surgeon or perhaps your primary care provider. Options include therapy, chiropractic care, injections, and eventually surgery.

Referred pain: The diaphragm, when irritated, sends signals that makes it seem your shoulder is hurting and/or hiccups. Try a low fat diet, increase your oral hydration, (juice tea and water). Okay to get in with your regular doc for evaluation. Labs to check your liver, US to check your upper abdominal organs, EGD, CXR. Go sooner if you have fever or vomiting. Be well.

Chest x Ray: get an X-ray to make sure you don't have a collapse of lung called pneumothorax. It is most likely a musculoskeletal problem That can be treated with Ibuprofen. But first get X-ray.
