Possibilities...: A cough that lasts that long puts it in the chronic cough category. Since it subsided on its own, the most likely explaination is bronchospasm. Other possibilities include gerd, sinus problem or even a combination of these. If it returns, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment. If you smoke, you need to quit to decrease airway inflammation which would decrease the recurrence rate.
