Depends: While many doctors won't let a woman go beyond 41 weeks, it's actually still considered a normal pregnancy length up to 42 weeks. Tests should be done to make sure that the baby is doing well (biophysical profile - a type of ultrasound) and to make sure there is plenty of amniotic fluid. Also, periodic non-stress tests (basically listening to baby's heart for 20+min) should be done.
