Fluid still in ear?: Your ear is probably not back to normal from infection. If your ear is still with fluid, though, not infected, it can produce metallic taste as there is a taste nerve in the middle ear. Coughing will also force positive pressure into your middle ear. If it is already full of fluid or is tender, it will cause pain.

Could be medications: Certain medications can have a side effect that include a metallic taste. Please check with your doctor(s) and pharmacist to check all the side effects of your medications. This may well be the cause if you have not had this problem in the past.
