Where are they?: There are papilla on your tongue. There are small ones on the top, some on the side and a couple of big ones in the back. Colors can vary. If they are fiery red it could be irritation. The tongue should be pink. I would see a dentist now. Have him/ her monitor your tongue. Any irritation should be over in 2 weeks. If longer, more tests may be needed.
