?Lyme work-up: A painful bump that is red could well be a target lesion from a tic bite. If you live in an area of the country where lyme disease is endemic, you may want to pursue formal evaluation (blood test) to determine your lyme titer. Lyme can be accompanied by the other symptoms described. Rocky mountain spotted fever, recluse spider bite, abscess and even closed head injury would be other possibilities.
