Yes: We all have bacteria in the vagina, but alot depends on what particular bacteria is present - some are worse than others. If you have group b strep, your doctor may give you antibiotics during labor to try to prevent the baby picking up the infection during the birth. Chance of baby getting the infection also depends on how long your water is broke, so let doc know immediatley if it breaks.

No: If you are referring to gbbs the chance of infection is very unlikely. Treatment at time of labor will be adequate. Hang in there.

Baby protections: As long as your bag of waters is intact (not leaking or broken) there is a protective barrier around baby that keeps all vaginal germs out.Certain vaginal bacteria are not a problem while others can be. If your germs are the bad kind,keep in contact with the delivery team & go in as soon as your water breaks, whether you have contractions or not.This is common, as many as 1/3 of women have this
