Unknown: NES (non-epileptic seizures) are best diagnosed only after careful scrutiny and perhaps an epilepsy monitoring unit stay. It is not uncommon for some patients to have both epileptic and non-epileptic seizures thus the added challenge. Repetitive and severe childhood trauma (often sexual and or severe physical) can result in the brain using dissociation and or NES as an escape mechanism.
