Moist herpes sores: Can easily become infected with bacteria or can lead to auto-innoculation on other parts of your body; so drying them is beneficial. Many remedies are suggested: witch hazel (may sting at first but then eases pain & shrinks lesions); baby powder (no corn starch unless u want fungal infxn too); baking soda; domeboro solution (powder available at drug store); hair dryer on low, cool setting.

Treating the virus!: There are no available topical treatments for herpes simplex virus (hsv). There are studies looking at new agents (www.Clintrials.Gov for info) lesions will heal vry quickly with Acyclovir or similar antiviral agents. If recurrent may need long course. In uncircumcised using topical antibiotics may cause overgrowth of candida (balanitis). Occlusive ointment may risk superinfection with bacteria.
