Pulmonary embolus: Possibly. Depends on the degree of clot burden and presence of lung infarction. Pain is a common presenting symptom but some people present with shortness of breath/ low oxygen saturation/ hemoptysis and little to no pain at all.

Not Usually: Pain is not the hallmark of pulmonary embolism. There can be some chest pain and discomfort but it is not usually severe.
