Better control of: Blood sugar. You need a coordinated approach to prevent more damage. Keep weight of the site, prevent any injury, see your doctor for better control of your sugar, get tested for neuropathy, may need wound care service from physical therapy. An ulcer in a diabetic is a serious issue that puts your limb at risk.

Simple answer: First, diabetic neuropathic ulcers only occur below the ankle. If yours is not there, it is not a diabetic ulcer. The key is to keep all pressure away from it, called offloading. It may need debridement (sharp cleaning) to keep only healthy tissue exposed to the dressings which should be every other to every third day. Watch for infection and keep the air away from it. A wound specialist helps.
