Try low impact: Reducing calories can produce weight loss, but exercise makes it a bit easier. Exercise that does not "jar" or load the back will usually be more comfortable and may also help you feel better. Often water exercise can help a person burn calories with low back stress (swimming, water walking, water aerobics). Other options include elliptical machines, bicycling, perhaps walking.
