A member asked:

A friend of mine sleeps in a oil smelling basement every night. is this bad for you?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not great: Typically if there is lingering smell of oil, fumes or must/mold, air is stagnant and that can cause some issues. Oil is typically organic material but has high molecular weight, so the chances of actually inhaling to deep lung are small. However, there are a lot of carcinogens in oils and breathing them in all night when during the day you would move, is not good.
