Normal healing: The white ulcer is part of the normal healing process in the mouth. It should begin to improve in no more than 5-7 days, and should most definitely be resolved in 2 weeks. Meanwhile, Ibuprofen may help but for sensitivity with meals, may consider topical anesthetic like oralgel although it only lasts a short time. If really painful a dentist can prescribe a med to help the inflammation and pain.

Magic mouthwash: You can ask your dentist to prescribe an oral rinse sometimes called magic mouthwash. It contains a local anesthetic and an antihistamine in a viscous carrier and will make it more comfortable while healing. Unfortunately, time is the only thing that will make the wound on your tongue heal.
