Could be serious: Sounds like you need to have things checked out. Testicular torsion (a serious problem affecting a testicle that causes blockage in blood flow) can cause severe pain and would need to be evaluated right away. An infection can also cause redness and pain. Some infections (such as yeast in the groin) are less serious and treated with creams; others (such as bacterial) would need oral antibiotics.

Diaper rash: It could be a yeast or bacterial infection. Sometimes it's just from being in a wet diaper . Change his diaper frequently to avoid redness, if tenderness continues he may need medication to clear it.

Depends: This could be a yeast infection or even bacterial rash. But there are other possibilities too. I recommend that you have your child seen by your pediatrician for this.

See a doctor: Redness to the scrotum and penis is most commonly irritation or diaper rash, however it could be an infection or bug bite. If the child develops fever or the area is very painful, swollen or warm, see a doctor.

Concern for infectio: Redness of the scrotum is worrisome because it could be a sign of twisting of the testicle, called torsion, or infection. Another cause could be an insect bite. You should have him seen quickly.

Toddler rash: Rashes are difficult to diagnose unless we can see the rash. But it is not uncommon for even toddlers to have a rash in the diaper area. It could be a yeast rash or bacterial rash. It could be skin irritation. If it is not too bad or painful, try an over the counter barrier cream and/or antifungal such as clotrimazole. See your doctor if not improving.
