X ray to be sure: Pain, swelling, bruising, deformity can all make you suspicious for a fracture.

Not really : A break in the foot bone does produce pain, swelling, and decreased ambulation. But so does a number of other conditions including foot sprain. So an x-ray would be ideal and certain if there is a high grade breakage.

Foot pain: There might be a traumatic incident (dropping something on your foot, or falling for example) or even a stress fracture. Stress fractures can take longer to show up, but persistent pain, swelling and maybe even bruising. A referral and a visit to your local podiatrist and some xrays may help clear the situation up. Good luck!

Get an xray: An xray is the only way to surely know if the bone is broken. Go to the podiatrist and get checked properly.
