You need to show it : Any persistent pain especially if it is increasing or associated with a swelling around the knee joint area would concern me enough that you should show it to your doctor and let him examine you to be sure that there is no abnormal growth or tumor where you are hhurting.

Hard to say by your.: ..Description, either a ligament or bone problem--both of which should be evaluated by a dr, preferably an orthopedist. Need to be sure you don't have a stress fracture or a significant ligament injury in need of treatment.
