Yes most of the time: It is occlusive in about 95 percent of patients .There is a small group of people in whom it may take 6 months for the test to become positive.So to be 100 percent sure get it checked at 6 months.

HIV exposure Testing: I agree with the other answer but wanted to include the fact that there are other tests that are conclusive within three weeks after a possible exposure. Any medical provider providing HIV testing in a high risk setting should offer or include the HIV RNA viral testing. If you are negative on this test at least 21 days post exposure you do not have hiv.
