Get. checked: It's hard to say. If you had a sufficient injury to have broken your finger and have pain and swelling, i would certainly be checked and you will probably need an xray. Some finger injuries are soft tissue related and require no treatment, others are quite serious even to the point of needing surgery. Thank you for your question.

Elevate and ice: This is not unusual for a broken finger. Make sure that you are seeing a hand specialist to make sure that no treatment needs to be done. You can elevate and apply ice. One concern is infection with redness. See your doctor to make sure this is not the case.
