Analysis, PCT, OTC: A few ways that sperm characteristics may be evaluated include: 1. Semen analysis (s.A.)-most accurarte. If no insurance, may pay cash. 2. Post-coital test (pct) - checking cervical mucous around ovulation after recent intercourse. Involves md examining cervical mucous under microscope. More qualitative assessment. 3. Over-the-counter (otc) kits. Not as accurate but costs less than s.A.

Shop around: There should be places willing to do it for a very affordable price. As a crude test, you can buy a child's microscope science kit and look for little wiggly things. (this works, but you won't be able to accurately determine how high the count is, only if there is some sperm vs no sperm).

Insurance...: Most insurance companies don't cover infertility evaluations, so ask around. You should be able to find a lab to get the test at a reasonable price.
