50% +: Unfortunate that hip dislocated after 8 years. Usually occurs within the first 2 months while the tissue that is holding the hip in place heals. If you have a dislocation at 8 years usually because of a accident or putting hip in a position that over stretches the hip joint. That position is dependent on the type of approach to the hip used by surgeon. Talk to surgeon about restrictions.

Increased risk: After first disloc the risk of future disloc is increased avoid crossed legs/ avoid acute hip flexion / aviod adduction which is drawing the leg across the midline like in crossing the legs for certain discuss this with your orthopedic surgeon.
