Calmer: Xanax (alprazolam) is a good band-aid. It works fast and improves anxiety tied to panic attacks, generalized anxiety and obsessive thinking. But like any band-aid, it makes one feel better but it's not a permanent fix. That requires counseling to deal with the cause of the anxiety or alternative medications psychiatrists often use to substitute for xanax (alprazolam) and other benzodiazepines.
