deep cavity causing discomfort. is there any way to fix this without fillings?

Remove the tooth?: You can always choose to extract the tooth, but then you have the need to replace it. There is no good way to restore the tooth without a restoration. The problem will not go away unless you get it fixed, so you might as well call you dentist and the sooner the better.
