A member asked:

Heart icd replacement surgery. how is it done? what is the recovery time?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

ICD : Replacing an icd is similar to replacing a pacer. The battery eventually depletes. The pocket is opened, the device is explanted and replaced with the new one. Measurements are taken to verify the new device is functioning normally and the pocket is closed. The patient is sent home either same day or the next usually. Recovery time is minimal, it is minor surgery.
