Unrelated, likely: Umbilical hernias containing "fat" are frequent findings on abdominal ct scans. They are rarely a cause of emergent concern, unless noted to contain bowel or other abdominal contents. Immediate medical attention for an umbilical hernia would be severe local pain at umbilicus with rapid enlargement (bulge) and vomiting. See your surgeon soon for an evaluation, either way!

Severe pain/vomiting: You may have a slight pain after eating as the intestines move if part of the fatty apron of the stomach is a part of the "fatty hernia, " the pain you are having may not be related to the fatty hernia at all and could be your gall bladder or an ulcer. I recommend that you proceed to the ed if the pain is persistent progressive and intensifies especially if there is any associated redness/ heat.

Great questions: Umbilical hernias can cause pain, though it is usually worsened by straining of the abdominal muscles and heavy lifting. Pain specifically associated with eating could be due to gallbladder or stomach problems or other causes. You would need immediate attention if you have severe, constant pain at the hernia site, or if intestines were contained within the hernia sac (not common).
