Treat the cirrhosis: Some forms of cirrhosis have specific treatment, like viral hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis, and all can be treated with transplanation. Avoiding alcohol is critical, even if it is not the cause. Beta blockers like Inderal (propranolol) or Nadolol can prevent bleeding. A healthy diet with reduced salt and modest protein (40 grams/day or less) is good, and you could try milk thistle. Itdoesnt cause pain.
