Insomnia: Lots of things can contribute: we're human. Often it is thoughts that are not being turned off or other sleep/medical disorders. If taking medications (even otc) side effects can cause sleeplessness. Napping is another major cause of poor nocturnal sleep.

Many many causes: It can be environmental, medical, psychological or side effects from medicine or over the counter products. Always do some good sleep hygiene things like, no smoking or caffeinated drinks before sleep, no external stimuli... If those things don't help than see physician for further help.
