Testosterone: Testosterone levels vary according to time of the day is obtained, also need to know the normals for the lab where the test is done. Is this a total testosterone, or free testosterone? If he has decreased libido he should see a doctor to determine if there is a physical cause.

Yes: Normal total testosterone in adult men is > 270ng/l or > 9 nmol/l, thus his is low whether measured in ng or nmol/l. Free testosterone should be > 50pg/ml or >174pmol/l. They also probably checked his fsh & lh levels which will be elevated if he has primary testicular failure. Should consult an endocrinologist and probably requires testosterone replacement therapy, topical skin gel or injections.

These are low!: We are finding that a large number of men in their mid-30's have low testosterone and would benefit from replacement. However, giving testosterone at this age will also reduce his body's ability to produce testosterone naturally as well as limit his potential fertility. At this age, most of us would suggest administering HCG to keep fsh levels high.
