A member asked:

What causes kidney pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Renal capsule: Kidney pain is caused classically because of distension or stretching of the renal capsule. This happens with blockages (stones) and infection most commonly. A kidney stone not causing blockage or simple cystitis (uti without kidney involvement) does not typically cause pain. The pain is mediated via the vagus nerve which explains the associated nausea, sweating, etc.
