See below: For simple uncomplicated, shingles, there is no "antibiotic" (antibacterials) unless a secondary bacterial illness occurs, but antivirals can be used like acyclovir, Famciclovir or valacyclovir shorten the outbreak.

Antiviral: Treatment is with an antiviral medication like Acyclovir or valacyclovir, in addition to an anti inflammatory medication and possibly a pain medication.
