Elevated liver tests: Elevated liver tests may occur in many settings: a viral illness, hepatitis, a "fatty" liver, congestive heart failure, etc. We usually recheck these in about a month to be sure they aren't trending up. Talk to your doctor about the facts in your case, and in the meantime, limit your use of alcohol and Acetaminophen - both of which can harm the liver. Lgromkomd.

Family practice : Your liver enzymes are elevated and this indicates something is irritating it. It could be alcohol if you drink. It could be a virus. It could be medication. If you have gallstones pain is usually present but that can cause it. Being a diabetic just complicates things.

Begin workup: A week or so off alcohol and all meds that might be contributing may return these to normal. If not, your physician will rule hepatitis b and c, hemochromatosis (don't overlook this one), and maybe antitrypsin deficiency, autoimmune hepatitis, and/or wilson's in or out. If all ruled out, this may be the fatty liver of diabetes; a fitness-focused lifestyle may be a big help. Stay proactive.
