Manic depressive : Is another name for bipolar. At least one episode of mania is required by definition and includes decreased need for sleep, elevated self esteem, and sometimes grandiose delusions. Usually episodes of depression also occur with decreased sense of self worth and feelings of hopelessness which may include suicidal ideation. These episodes are usually separated by weeks, months, or even yearss.
