Not at all: Bipolar disorder (bd) is a waxing and waning problem with mood--depression or mania. Autism is a sustained problem with impairments in social interaction, language, and odd or unusual behaviors. Autism starts early in life and is not something you can "catch" later; bd most commonly starts in teens or later. Bd is responsive to medication; autism is not.

No: Autism requires significant developmental delay prior to 3 yo. Bipolar symptoms are usually not recognizable before 10-25 yo. See responses to questions on bipolar and autism for more specific description of symptoms for each disorder.
