Not at all: Bipolar disorder (bd) is a waxing and waning problem with mood--depression or mania. Autism is a sustained problem with impairments in social interaction, language, and odd or unusual behaviors. Autism starts early in life and is not something you can "catch" later; bd most commonly starts in teens or later. Bd is responsive to medication; autism is not.
