What type of dr. should i see for sleep apnea?

Dr. Joshua Rosenthal answered

Specializes in ENT and Head and Neck Surgery

Sleep doctor: Sleep doctors can be ent, pulmonologists, neurologist, internists, or psychiatrists. Only your ENT can offer surgical treatments, which should generally only be attempted if you fail less invasive options first. Please don't let anyone cut your uvula off (many ent's still do this).

DENTIST OR MD: Doctors that specialize in sleep related disorders and breathing are the best. Your internist is best to recommend you to the right specialist. Sleep dentists can evaluate you but not diagnose sleep apnea and they also will refer you to the proper specialist. If you are a candidate you may be fitted with an oral device for the apnea.
