Ask your surgeon: Open wounds can cause an elective surgery to be cancelled. Fever, abscessed teeth and broken teeth are also reasons to cancel elective surgery. The risk for infection is too high. Call your surgery team and let them know what is going on with you.

Ask surgeon: The answer depends on the nature of the wound and if infected. It also depends on surgery being done a hip replacement would be different than a hernia repair.
