Not uncommon: The soft spot can be tiny or large or increase from birth for a few months before decreasing in size. The bones of the skull grow apart from each other using 17 different suture centers up to the age of 9 when the adult head size is reached. The timing of soft spot closure has no impact as long as the growth centers remain open to grow normally.
