Blood test: A blood test for beta HCG may be positive before a missed period and would diagnose pregnancy, but a negative test will not rule out pregnancy. It is better to wait 4-5 after a misse period to do blood test or home test.

Quantitative HCG: The earliest pregnancy test you can take is a quantitative blood test. It can detect HCG 8-9 days after fertilization of the egg. If it shows a level less than 25, then it is equivocal and might need to be repeated in a couple of days. Visit your doctor if there is concern.
