Laryngitis: Depends on the cause of the laryngitis and the severity of the problem. There are many conditions that can cause a laryngitis some of which are more serious than others. Laryngitis in a youngster can be very troubling as swelling and irritation can tend to close off the airway. Severe cases need emergency care. See your doctor if this condition is a problem for you.

Laryngitis: Most of the time, laryngitis is caused by a virus, the same as head colds. Symptoms last 3 - 10 days, and will clear with time. If symptoms don't' clear, suspect an irritant such as acid reflux or a secondary bacterial infection. Go see your doctor, if symptoms don't clear by 10 days.
