Apply ice: If the injury occurred less than 24 hours ago then apply ice for 5 minutes 4 times daily for the first 48 hours. Ibuprofen otc can be used to relieve some of the pain and inflammation. Elevating the leg may help to reduce some of the swelling. You should see your pcp regarding the injury to make sure you have not sustained a fracture.

RICE: Rest, ice, compression & elevation is best for injuries while heat is good for infection. If you can't bear weight or use an injured limb, get urgent care immediately.
