Antihistamines: Both Claritin (loratadine) and Clarinex are good antihistamines that are approved for the treatment of hives. There is no reason they cannot be used together although usually it is not necessary. If a food allergic reaction is more than just hives, such as cough, wheezing, throat tightness, vomiting, cramping, light headedness, etc, this is an emergency and requires Epinephrine and a visit to the er.
