Pharyngitis: The cause of your sore throat would predict the treatment. You could try otc cholaroseptic spray but i would not want to mask an infection, post nasal drip or reflux disease. It may be best to see your physician on this one if it persists.

Viral/bacterial/othe: It all depends on what is causing it. If viral fluids , tylenol (acetaminophen) and time will help. Otherwise you should see a health professional.

Some simple things: While you should seek in person care if you have severe pain, persistent fevers or great difficulty swallowing or painful swallowing, you can do some basic things at home to help. You can use warm salt water gargles to help with the throat pain. Alternatively you can use the analgesic over the counter sprays(chloraseptic spray) and/or lozenges(cephacol) to help too. Avoid alcohol beverages.
