Common: Many babies have this, especially if the skin is naturally more dark.

Normal variant?: Linea nigras are usually seen in pregnant women due to estrogen stimulating melanocytes stimulating hormone. In children i would suspect it is a normal variant. However, there have been reports of adrenal insufficiency being present in children.
