Not necessarily: Throat swab for rapid strep and culture would be done if there was a close contact with another person with strep pharyngitis, symptoms of sore throat with or without white patches/pus on tonsils, fever, enlarged lymph nodes in neck, abdominal pain and/or rash suspicious for strep.
