Check for strep: Get him checked to make sure that he doesn't have a strep. If negative, he will enjoy lots popsicles or ice cream.

Popsicles?: Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen will also help with the pain but I have heard from many 6 yo that they prefer the popsicles. If your child is sick he should see his pediatrician for a throat swab to look for strep or maybe mono, or a flu test. He may need penicillin to protect his heart from rheumatic heart disease.Try a cold popsicle tonight and call your pediatrician first thing in the morning.
