No: Teething comes from the baby teeth stimulating the gum tissue during the eruption process and is normal. One helpful suggestion is to get a child size soft bristle tooth brush. Put it under water and then give it to your child to chew on. They love to suck the water out of the bristles. This also is an indirect of teaching them to use a brush. Kids that do this seem to have less cavities.

Maybe,maybe not: I'm not convinced that teething itself causes fever although the kids can get worked up during the process. Teething occurs during the period when babies get 5-7 respiratory & 2-3 diarrhea viruses/yr & i'm not sure when one stops & another starts up, many are mild & teething gets blamed for the fever due to lack of obvious symptoms.
