Knee pain: Two common conditions resulting in knee pain associated with contraction of the quad muscles are (1) patellar tendinitis - 'jumper's knee' and (2) patellofemoral syndrome. The former is related to inflammation/injury to the patellar tendon, and the latter is related to inflammation/injury/wear of the patellofemoral joint (knee cap joint). Try rice (rest, ice, compression, elevation) and nsaids.

Several possibilitie: Tendinitis of the quadriceps and patellar tendon, knee cap arthritis known as chondromalacia patella, meniscus tears, it band syndrome. These are some of the more common causes.
