white spots are generally smaller and appear in 1 or a few areas. It can be segmental of focal. Vitiligo can be segmental pr focal but stays in 1 side of the body. Mucous membranes inside the mouth and nose can occur. premature whitening or grey of the hair, eyelashes,, eyebrows or beard can occur.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease that destroys the melanocytes, pigment producing cells. White spots are superficial infection by a yeast Malassezia furfur causing tinea versicolor, it has color variations, dark spots or red on light skin or patches of light skin on dark skin. It can cause itching. Both can occur in any part of the body & neither is considered contagious. Hope it helps.
