Strep or Viral: Sore throat with swollen tonsil (s) and nausea can be either bacterial or viral. Even with looking, only about 70% accurate by an md. Strep usually requires a test (rapid strep test or culture) to know for sure. Often treated clinically. Viral sore throat can look and act the same. If there is a fever and a general sandpaper like rash, this is likely strep. Mono is a viral infection w/ st.
