Depends: A "pancoast tumor" is a type of lung cancer in the upper lungs that can initially present with shoulder pain. This type is pain is typically described as a deep pain, that is constant and not relieved by medications, exercise or therapy. A chest xray and/or ct scan is the appropriate radiographic test to evaluate this concern.
