Not usually: It may be seen if oral contrast material is given to the patient and noted incidentally. Otherwise it is unlikely to see the cancer on a chest x ray.

Only if big: Early stage esophageal cancer would likely only be seen on esophagoscope exam or possible on ct incidentally. Likely it would b asymptomatic. Once a tumor is large enough to cause symptoms, it might b seen on chest x-ray but a barium study, scope, ct and possibly pet would b ordered to evaluate the tumor and lymph nodes. Rare to find a cancer if the esophagus incidentally on cxray.

No: You could see secondary signs , such as obstruction ( an airfluid level in the esophagus) , lymphadenopathy ( enlarged lymph nodes ) , etc. But not the primary tumor.

Usually not...: ... Until it's too late. Early cancer hides within the esophagus and is not visible on simple chest x-ray.

Not usually: A plain x-ray does not provide enough detail of soft tissues and hollow organs to reliably detect esophageal tumors.
